   The Studio Firmano was founded in 1955 by prof. Mario Santoro, as an ideal continuation of the old University of Fermo .

   Between 25th-27th March 1955 Mario Santoro organized the "First Meeting about the historical studies of medical art" in Fermo under the honorary Presidency of the prof. Adalberto Pazzini, the founder and the director of the Institute of the History of Medicine at the University of Rome "La Sapienza".

   Mario Santoro (Catignano, 11 st October 1905 - 2 nd April 1998) graduated in Medicine and Surgery at University of Rome in 1933. He specialized in paediatrics at the University of Rome in 1935 where he was the assistant at the pediatric clinic between 1934-1936.
   
   In February 1939 he was appointed Director of the orphanage in Fermo and he remained in this position until 1958.
   
   In 1944 Mario Santoro founded the first Italian school for nursing assistants in Fermo, with the collaboration of prof. Ernesto Cacace who was the President of the Italian Society of Nipiology.

   The Studio Firmano has reactivated relationships with the Universities of the region and according to the will of the founder Mario Santoro, with the Section of History of Medicine of the University of Rome "La Sapienza", directed by prof.ssa Luciana Rita Angeletti, professor senior of history of medicine and the first direct heir of the scientific tradition of Adalberto Pazzini.

   It was founded in Fermo in 1955 by professor Mario Santoro under the guidance of professor Adalberto Pazzini, director of the Institute of the History of Medicine at the University of Rome . The collaboration with the History of Medicine section at the University "La Sapienza" of Rome, is as strong today as it has ever been, thanks to the availability of the prof.ssa Luciana Rita Angeletti, professor senior of the History of Medicine and heir to the historical-medical tradition of prof. Adalberto Pazzini.
