Edward C. Santoian, M.D, Ph.D.
Dr. Santoian graduated from the Physician-Scientist program at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., in 1984, receiving both his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees.He remained at Georgetown University to complete both his Internal Medicine and Cardiology training.He then completed two more years of training in Interventional Cardiology at the Gruentiz Cardiovascular Center at Emory University in Atlanta, where he developed skills in angioplasty, atherectomy, and coronary stenting.He maintained an active academic Interventional practice at the Deborah Heart and Lung Center in New Jersey, from 1992-95, and then was in private practice prior to joining Orlando Heart Center in July, 1997.
Dr. Santoian is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, interventional cardiology, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions.He has published over 60 articles and abstracts in peer reviewed medical journals.His main research interests have been in prevention of restenosis (reblocking of arteries) after angioplasty, coronary stents, drug and gene delivery into arteries, as well as, new device development.Dr. Santoian has performed a significant volume of high risk procedures since 1992.
In collaboration with several prestigious universities, the Orlando Heart Center and Dr. Santoian are currently involved in numerous FDA approved multi-center clinical research projects.Because of Dr. Santoian's expertise, OHC patients are provided access to the latest ideas, techniques, and equipment available in the U.S.
