Most gratifying to see were several given to community groups who worked hard to bring charter legislation to New Jersey; a group of parents each in Hoboken and Jersey City who see charters as a way to preserve and improve public education; the residential Samuel DeWitt Proctor Academy school to serve poorly performing children in grades 7-12, the Sussex County Charter School for Technology, and the LEAP Academy Charter School, founded by Gloria Santiago-Bonilla at Rutgers University.Gloria has devoted much of her time this last year to bringing about the necessary conditions for charters.
