   HIV can be considered a sexually transmitted disease and some of the risk factors that facilitate the transmission of HIV also facilitate the transmission of other STDs. In addition, there is a two-to-five fold increase in HIV transmission in the presence of an STD. These points give credence to the notion that STD prevention is HIV prevention and is an argument for the integration of HIV and STD information services.
   
   Although there appears to be a trend toward the integration of STD and HIV information by hotlines (e.g., Illinois AIDS/HIV and STD Hotline and Ohio AIDS/HIV/STD Hotline in 1998), this is still far from the norm. Many HIV/AIDS hotlines provide basic STD information and opt to refer more in-depth inquiries to outside resources.
