The e-mail making its rounds quotes an official ( Abraham Sands ) who is allegedly with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. This story is absolutely ridiculous and totally false.Read more about it at : http : //urbanlegends.about.com/science/urbanlegends/library/weekly/aa061400a. htm 2. Knock-Out Perfume We dealt with this internet rumor in the June , 2000 issue of our COPNotes e-mail newsletter , but we're still receiving a tremendous number of e-mails questioning its authenticity. To summarize , the rumor deals with individuals who are approaching unsuspecting victims in the parking lot and asking them to smell a bottle of perfume.Ostensibly , the person smelling the perfume is then rendered unconscious by the fumes and then robbed while they are in this vulnerable state. This rumor is totally false.Apparently it started with a newspaper article in Mobile , AL , but was blown totally out of proportion by individuals who evidently saw a great opportunity to scare the wits out of those on their personal e-mail list.

The mass e-mail, reportedly sent by a Captain Abraham Sands of the OPP, is an urban myth.Police said there is no Abraham Sands that represents the OPP and no reports of injuries at gas stations regarding needles. The hoax dates back to 1997 in Jacksonville, Fla.The website Snopes.com, which investigates urban legends, myths and rumours, also declares the needle notice a hoax, saying "Abraham Sands" doesn't exist. He was originally from Florida but, in 2003, his location changed from the "Jacksonville area" to the "Simcoe area."
