Abby B. Sandler, Ph.D., Chief, Institute Review Office (IRO), National Cancer Institute (NCI), became Executive Secretary of the President's Cancer Panel in January of 2005.

The information gathered at the panel's meeting will be used in its annual report to Bush, expected next summer or fall, said Abby B. Sandler, chief of the Institute Review Office of the National Cancer Institute and the panel's executive secretary.

The report will include updates on the latest research, model programs and recommendations on what should happen in the national fight against cancer, she said.

"A large percentage of cancer cases are preventable," Sandler said.
