Former Lumberjack athletes Doug Samford of Carthage and the late Leo Anger Jr. of Victoria will be honored as this year's inductees into the Stephen F. Austin State University Athletic Hall of Fame on Oct. 13.
The induction will occur during the annual Letterman's Breakfast at the Fredonia Hotel.The breakfast starts at 8 a.m., and tickets are $12 each.The Jacks of Honor induction ceremony will be held during the breakfast as well.Both ceremonies are part of the university's 73rd annual homecoming celebration at SFA.Honorees of both awards also will be announced during halftime of the 2 p.m. football game against Jacksonville State University.

Samford was a two-sport letterman during his days at SFA.He played football for the Lumberjacks from 1946 to 1949 and lettered three of those years.Samford also lettered the 1947 through 1949 years as a member of the Lumberjacks baseball squad.
Samford was named to the 1949 All Lone Star Conference second team.He was a member of the baseball team that claimed conference championships in 1947 and 1948 and co-championship in 1949.
A graduate of Carthage High School, Samford received a bachelor's degree and master's degree from SFA in 1949 and 1964, respectively.He is a Life Member of the SFA Alumni Association and was named a charter member of the Jacks of Honor in 1983.
Samford spent 35 years in education and as a Texas high school football coach before retiring.
Anger also was a two-sport letterman at SFA from 1946 to 1949.He lettered all four years in football and baseball.
As quarterback, Anger led the Lumberjacks to two Lone Star Conference championships in 1948 and 1949.In 1949, he set a record for most yards passing in a game; the record stood for 19 years until November 1968.
Anger joined Samford on the Lumberjack baseball team that won conference championships in 1947, 1948 and co-championship in 1949.
A 1950 SFA graduate, Anger was a Life Member of the SFA Alumni Association.The Leo Anger Jr. Scholarship was created in 1986 following his death in 1985.
Anger worked as a Texaco distributor for 25 years.He served as vice president for the Victoria Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Texas Oil Marketers Association, Victoria Rotary Club, Victoria 100 Club, Victoria Better Government League and the Holy Family Catholic Church.
