Dr Sahu has worked for the following institutions: Gandhi Memorial Leprosy Foundation Leprosy Control Units, Training Centres, and Health Education Unit in various capacities; LEPRA India as Training Officer, HE Co-ordinator and IEC Consultant.He has also worked in co-ordination with the government of Orissa as a member of: the State Leprosy Advisory Committee, the Policy Guidance Committee of NLEP and the State Rehabilitation Committee.He is the vice-president of the Isaac Santra Institute of Social Work and Community Health, Sambalpur and a member of the National Leprosy Organisation, India and Hind Kushta Niveran Sangh.He has introduced health education programmes on leprosy since 1964 to All India Radio, Cuttack and since 1976 to Television Base Production Centre, Cuttack for Satellite Instructional Television Education Programme (SITE).He has also published a large number of articles in Oriya newspapers and periodicals since 1964.Dr Sahu has presented many scientific papers in seminars and congresses, and has translated and published TALMILEP books into the Oriya language.He was the Organising Secretary for the First Orissa State Leprosy Workers Conference, Puri, in 1969 and has also been involved in the organisation of other workshops and courses.In 1993 he received the award for Best Leprosy Social Worker of India, presented by the Rotary International Club, Jatni.He holds a number of other awards, including the Gayatri Award, given by the Gandhi Memorial Leprosy Foundation, Wardha, in 2000 and the Dr Rajendra Prasad Gold Medal, awarded by the National Leprosy Organisation, India, in 2001.
