Dr. Amulya Sahu might be an ophthalmologist by profession, but a true karma yogi as a person.Amulya Sahu is a renowned name who has conducted more than 3000-4000 operations in gratis in the city."I always believed that we should not possess anything, but give away more and that is what I am practicing,'' said Sahu, who has three hospitals in the suburbs. The idea germinated at an early stage, but at that point in time he had nothing to offer."In my early days when I had just received my degree in ophthalmology I started doing social service, but people were very skeptical about me.Now when I have everything they have accepted my services,'' said Sahu, who also runs a trust called Kamal Welfare Trust, which conducts operations as well as a camp. His charges are nominal.Rs.50 for consultation at Sanjukta Hospital, Charkop."This is an area where most of the people are below the poverty line, so I charge them a bare minimum or sometimes no fees at all," He said.However his dream project is to serve in his home town Orissa & adopt a village there. "People migrate for economic pursuits, but aren't doing anything for there home town, So I want to do something for a village in such a way that will help people uplift their lives.I want to a Hospital there and recruit people from to provide employment," Said Sahu, who is about to became the President of the Bombay Ophthalmologists Association.Dr Amulya Sahu has also conducted free camps various States for Society and now his main aim is to construct yet another Hospital where generated Income will be used for his Orissa project.

Dr Amulya Sahu, President of the Bombay Ophthalmologists Association, raisedthe proposal on June 2nd at a first-of ,its ,kind "gala Exchange" organized by "Ophthalmology Times" India and China editions at the Eye Hospital of the china academy of traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing.Dr Sahu's leading a delegation of 25 Mumbai Ophthalmologists on what for most was their first visit to the People's Republic, said Indian curiosity about China was on the rise after the decades of relative estrangement, and he hoped at the visit would be the first of many professional ophthalmic exchanges in both directions."There is so much that Indian and Chinese Ophthalmologists can learn from each other," said Dr Sahu, who presented to the afternoon gathering of more than 100 doctors concise overviews of India's complex and effective model of rural eye care delivery.
