"She thought she was just marrying one man," Warren East drama director Toby Ruth said. "But then she meets these brothers, who are all uncouth, uncultured trappers. So she decides to marry them all off." To help the brothers find wives, Millie works hard to teach them proper etiquette - until Adam convinces them that kidnapping a bride is a better solution. "But then they get into a fight with the townspeople and are banned from town," Ruth said. "The rest of the show is about getting the brides." Although "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" is a fairly old musical, Ruth said it remains a crowd-pleaser. "It's funny in a lot of parts," he said. "It's good, old-fashioned family fun." Obviously, the play requires a lot of male parts, which proved to be a challenge for Ruth and the show's other director, Byron Lucas, as they cast the play.

"Finding guys to be in the show was tough," Ruth said. "We were fighting with spring sports like football." But the play was cast successfully and Ruth said the show is ready to go on. "(The cast has) really come together in the last few weeks," Ruth said. -

Parents and students "built every scrap" of the set, which includes a kitchen complete with appliances, according to Ruth.
Students gave up most Saturdays to perfect their roles and behind-the-scenes jobs. -

Toby Ruth, a Warren East English teacher who didn't have time to direct his school's fall play this year, said he's glad his students decided they'd like to direct three one-act plays themselves.
"They're getting their first real taste of the theater world," said Ruth, who is acting as the teens' faculty adviser.
