These acquisitions and joint ventures enabled significant market share expansion and increased the company's competitive position in the overall US pharmaceutical market. Mr. Ruth implemented the mergers of Ciba and Geneva Marketing companies in 1996 and the overall Novartis merger, between Ciba Geigy and Sandoz in 1997. Prior to his appointment as chief Financial Officer at Geneva Pharmaceuticals, Mr. Ruth served as Controller from 1985 through 1990.
