Maritime Partenariate: Projekt Lighthouse - [Cached Version]
    Last Visited: 11/15/2008

Olle Rutgersson, professor at Chalmers Tekniska Högskola (technical college) in Gothenburg, talked about Lighthouse, a unique partnership between Chalmers, Handelshögskolan (commercial college) in Gothenburg and Sweden's Shipowners' Association, which was initiated on 7 December last year.

Lighthouse is a centre for Nordic maritime education, which is at Chalmers Campus Lindholmen in Gothenburg. Here they offer education and research in the maritime fields of technology, marine safety, design and logistics.

Collective education - Here we have a collective marine education complex where we can combine theory and practice, said Olle Rutgersson. The purpose of Lighthouse is to make the maritime industry more effective, safer and more environmentally friendly, plus to ensure competitive strength in the Swedish maritime industry.

The Swedish Shipowners' Association is investing 100 million SEK in this project to improve education and hopefully also encourage more people into the maritime industry.
