   By now it was obvious an in-house creative head was needed and Paul Ruta was recruited in August 1996 from Saatchi & Saatchi Singapore. Canadian born, Paul had studied typography at the London College of Printing before starting his career at Roche Macaulay & Partners in Toronto. He still remembers the gap in the early days in M&C Saatchi between the amount of work to be done and the number of people around to do it. His hard work has now earned him the title of Regional Creative Director and a talented group of creatives supporting him. Paul looks after the regional business for the major brands like Qantas, British Airways and the international Tiger business.

   Paul Ruta believes that, now the agency is "no longer running to stand still," they can spend more effort on quality and take more initiative with existing clients and new ones. Paul is a great believer in helping train young Singaporeans and was pleased during his stint as Chairman of the Judges in the recent Creative Circle Awards to see local teams walking away with the top prizes.

   The Singapore 4As has described the charge as "nonsense"; however, chairman of the CCA 2000 judging panel Paul Ruta said that tougher measures have been put in place this year.
   
   "We've said from the outset this year that we will be asking for verification that ads have indeed run," said Mr Ruta, who is also a creative director with M&C Saatchi.
