Photographer : Thomas A. Rust Courtesy Oriental and India Office Collections , the British Library
A majority of the photographs in the exhibition are drawn from the British Library's Oriental and India Office in London. One of the themes highlights architecture and ethnography , and shows the British passion for documenting ancient monuments and varied races of people. Much of this documentation was done by British officers in military , civil or medical services , and was occasionally used to further the colonial agenda.
Particularly disturbing in the exhibit are portraits of Andaman islanders posed as specimens against a grid of two-inch squares , in frontal , right and left views.
