The Acme, which will replace the 20,000-square-foot store on West Green Street, is still in the design stages, said Walt Rubel, Acme spokesperson.Bids will go out in early January.Construction should take six to eight months.
The new store will cost between $7 million and $8 million, Rubel said.It will have an ATM, pharmacy, copier, one-hour photo developing service and floral shop, in addition to an expanded seafood section and a deli offering custom-cut meats.Patrons will also be able to walk in and buy a complete meal.
Construction on the store was originally scheduled to start in July or August of this year. The "press of business" delayed the store's progress, Rubel said.
"We've got, nationwide, at any one time, at least 150 to 200 facilities that we're working on," he said.
In addition, because most of the new Acme stores are in the 55,000-square-foot range, they had to make some design changes to the plans.
The Acme on West Green Street will close the night before the new store opens.
The new Acme is an anchor store in the new Middletown Crossing Shopping Center, which will be located at the corner of Silver Lake Road and Del. 299.
