From 23rd to 25th May 1965, Open Days were held and on 25th September 1964, a further new building was opened by Dr A P Rowe, the former Chief Superintendent of TRE who had by then returned in retirement to Malvern. This building R was occupied by the Airborne Radar Group and commanded an excellent view across the Vale of Evesham, enabling equipment trials against aircraft in flight to be con-ducted from the laboratories.

In 1967, the Ministry of Aviation, under which responsibility for RRE now lay, was joined by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research to form the new Ministry of Technology and, as referred to later, a considerable effort was made by RRE, together with the other research establishments, to liaise more closely with Industry.

With Dr Macfarlane's promotion to Headquarters, in 1967 the Directorship of RRE passed to Dr E V D Glazier which post he held until his untimely death in 1972 when he was succeeded by R J Lees.
