BlackLine president and co-founder Patrick Rousseau said there's so much consumer interest in GPS technology because it deals with locations, part of people's daily lives.

"It answers a lot of the typical questions that people have," said Rousseau."It's navigation: 'How do I get there?' With tracking it's 'Where are you right now?'

"And if you can answer that question without having to ask it, then obviously that creates a solution to a problem in your daily life."The Snitch device can be hidden in a vehicle and can track the location over the Internet or with a mobile phone.

"Somebody breaks into your vehicle, we alert your phone or e-mail," Rousseau said."We call Snitch an informer that works for you."

Rousseau said private detectives initially bought the device to track cheating spouses and lovers.
    ...
Rousseau noted the Snitch also can be used as a road trip gadget to allow family and friends to keep track of a loved one's travels through the web or cellphone.

He dismissed privacy concerns about the device.
