  Neka Roundy Neka Roundy is a graduate of Brigham Young University with a B.S. in Recreation Education and Youth Leadership and a M.A. in Community School Leadership. She also holds a Community College Teaching certificate from California.
  
  As a new resident (thirty years ago) to the wonderful community of Kaysville, she became involved with the city recreation programs. She was a PTA board member at the elementary, junior high, and Davis High schools and served as a member of the Kaysville Planning Commission. She was elected to the Kaysville City Council and served there for six years before being elected Mayor.
  
  One of Neka's 'assignments' from the Davis County Council of Governments is the Davis Chamber of Commerce Board. This is a great assignment and a unique opportunity to meet many people in the Davis County community.
  
  Neka works for Davis County Community and Economic Development. Some projects she is involved with include volunteers at Antelope Island State Park, Great Salt Lake Bird Festival, and Antelope by Moonlight Bike Ride. For nine years she did the tourism promotion for Davis County.
  
  Neka and her husband Steve, a junior high school teacher, are the parents of four children- 3 daughters, 1 son and have added 1 son-in-law and 2 grand-daughters.
  
  Neka is a member of Utah League of Cities and Towns, American Association of University Women, and Friends of Antelope Island. She enjoys her family, reading and travel.

  "It has kind of gone from a natural resource to an economic benefit," said Neka Roundy, with the Davis County Department of Community and Economic Development.
  
  Roundy said there are energetic workers staffing the island who are willing to do a lot of programming and structured activities for visitors, especially on summer holidays.
  
  For example, on Labor Day, there were 1,243 visitors who participated in activities at the historic Garr Fielding Ranch, she said.
  
  The rise in visitation is also a result of better weather, positive "word of mouth" about what the island offers, and the increased promotion of the park for the 50th anniversary, Roundy said.
  
  "I think a lot of things come together with timing," she said.

  Neka Roundy, a former council member, assumed duties as the city's chief elected official, while Gil Miller, previously on the council in an appointed capacity, joined as an elected member.

  Speaking to the Clipper following the ceremony, Roundy said she wanted to "press forward with economic development, particularly in the west part of the city."
  
  She has previously also expressed concern that any new development not be done to the peril of existing downtown businesses.
  
  She also said that although the Recreation, Arts & Parks tax did not pass muster with voters in the November, 2004 elections, the city would support any such efforts by official declaration -- particularly as it could bolster the city's recreation program.
  
  Roundy also noted she has received support from "all corners," meaning those who may have waged campaigns against her before this last election, would now throw their support behind her efforts.
