Moline athletic director Todd Rosenthal had no part in the decision for the Maroons to open Saturday at 1 p.m. at Downers Grove South. That was a deal done by the coaches in a midnight meeting to exchange tapes Sunday morning.
"One of their coaches had a prior commitment with a wedding or something on Friday," Rosenthal said."There was talk of playing it Saturday evening, if we played Saturday, but they have a swim meet."
Rock Island wanted to play its game with Woodstock on Friday night at Almquist Field. However, the guests nixed that idea quickly and a Saturday afternoon start was decided on.

Rosenthal agrees that Moline would likely have more fans travel Friday night than Saturday.
The fans were also a factor in the decision for Yorkville to travel to Geneseo Saturday instead of Friday.
"I know it's good for some fans and others get put in a bind," said Geneseo AD Travis Mackey."Our fans are going to come whenever we play.I asked (the Yorkville AD) what would be their best draw and he said Saturday afternoon would be their best way to get people to Geneseo."
