Seth L. Rosen is a partner with Debevoise & Plimpton LLP and a member of the firmâ€s Tax Department and Insurance Practice Group.His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions and other refinancings and restructurings, with particular emphasis on the insurance industry.
Mr. Rosen writes and speaks frequently on topics relating to the tax consequences of mergers and acquisitions and other tax topics relevant to the financial services industry.Recent lectures have included, "Retaliatory Taxes - Selected Topics," Insurance Tax Conference (2003); "Corporate Tax Shelters," American Bar Association, Tax Section Mid-Year Conference (2002); "Not-for -Profit Incorporation," The Legal Aid Society (2002); "General Tax Update - Recent Developments," Insurance Tax Conference (2001); "Tax Issues in Insurance Mergers and Acquisitions," Insurance M&A, Practising Law Institute (1997-2000); "Overview of Tax Issues," Acquisitions of Subsidiaries, Divisions and Private Companies, Law Journal Seminars (1997-2000); "Tax Shelters," Insurance Tax Conference (2000); "Mergers, Acquisitions and Restructurings: What is Happening with the Industry Today?," The 21st Annual Hartford Institute on Insurance Taxation (1999); "Mergers, Acquisitions and Demutualizations," Insurance Tax Conference (1996); and "Life Insurance Company Update," Insurance Tax Conference (1998).Mr. Rosen has served as Chair of both the Council on Taxation and the Committee on Taxation of Corporations of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.He is currently a Member-At-Large of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Associationâ€s Tax Section and a member of the Committee on Insurance Companies of the American Bar Associationâ€s Tax Section.
Mr. Rosen joined Debevoise in 1981 and became a partner in 1989.He received his B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 1977 and his J.D. cum laude from New York University in 1980, where he was an Executive Editor and Book Review Editor of the Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif.From 1980-1981, Mr. Rosen served as a Law Clerk to Hon. William H. Timbers of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
