Victoria Rose, WBAL's research director, added that in addition to the world series, The rescheduled Emmy awards, The Country Music awards, The Baltimore Ravens first ever Monday night football game and Michael Jackson's return to network television all contributed to WBAL losing at 11 p.m.

"It was a very important factor," said Rose."It changed the whole focus of the late news numbers."

Meanwhile, morning newscasts continued to be an area of competition for the top two stations.
