  Mike Roe Frisco businessman and volunteer, Mike Roe, has been named a Texas Hero for Children by the State Board of Education, according to Katie Kordel, principal at Pioneer Heritage Middle School.

  Roe, an Allstate Insurance representative, has been the business representative on the school improvement team for the past five years.

  Roe funded the construction of a Red Ribbon Garden in front of PHMS that includes trees, native Texas plants, red roses and a bench. As a commitment to a drug-free lifestyle, students signed their name on a red ribbon and tied the ribbon on a tree branch. Roe generously funded murals for PHMS when the cost of murals became more than the Parent Teachers Organization had expected. He not only donated his own money he convinced other local businesses to contribute to the project, as well.
  
  In addition to volunteering with the school, Roe is an active volunteer with Frisco Noon Rotary and Frisco Family Services, a non-profit social services organization. Roe has encouraged PHMS students to become involved with Frisco Family Services and was the inspiration for the school-wide baby shower to collect infant items for the organization.
  
  Roe will be recognized on September 21 in Austin as one of 14 volunteers across the state who have been designated as Heroes for Children.
