A 4-year-old boy and his 2-year-old sister were found in Georgia last week, according to Michael Roe, chief inspector for the county District Attorney's Office.
The father of the children, Jose Arias, 28, of Watsonville, did not have permission from his wife to take the kids when he left Santa Cruz County last month, Roe said.
The kids were on a plane back home Friday.
"It was a happy reunion," Roe said.
Roe said the children's 25-year-old mother, also of Watsonville, and Arias gave different stories about how the children were taken from the state.
...
Arias's story wasn't very believable, Roe said.
"It's looking like his story is a bunch of lies," he said.
...
"It took them a couple of days doing surveillance and knocking on doors to find the kids," Roe said.
...
If apprehended, Arias would face extradition to Santa Cruz County to answer to charges of felony child abduction, Roe said.
...
District Attorney's Office investigators have handled about 60 cases of interstate child abduction in the past six years, Roe said.
"The kids are pawns in their parents' fight," he said.
