In addition, "there's not one allegation of direct harassment ... or quid pro quo or requests for (sexual favors)," Robison said.

He called Christle's other allegations "outrageous" and "without substance."In court, Robison complained that he had been unable to take Christle's deposition.

Berkow's attorney in Los Angeles, Clint Robison, said that claim was not true.He said Berkow disclosed in the deposition that there was "no intimacy at the workplace or during work hours."

However, the chief admitted to two relationships with female officers, which took place when he was separated from his wife.

Christle contends that when she complained, she was demoted and transferred.

The lawsuit claims are "nothing more than a trumped up charge of favoritism," said Clint Robison, an attorney representing Berkow and the city in the lawsuit.Berkow worked for the Rochester, N.Y., Police Department and was police chief in Irvine, Calif. before he joined the LAPD on April 15, 2003.He was given the task of reforming a disciplinary system that was criticized for being slow and ineffective.
