SEATTLE -- Washington Mutual, Inc. (NYSE:WM) today promoted Edward S. Robertson to executive vice president and chief financial officer of its Specialty Finance Group (SFG).In this position, Robertson is responsible for all aspects of financial planning and analysis; financial accounting, including the monthly close process; financial oversight for Washington Mutual Finance; Treasury; Planning; and Accounting.

Prior to joining Washington Mutual in 2001, Robertson was chief financial officer at Miami-based Barclays Group, an $8-billion, 250-employee Latin American Investment and Commercial bank and subsidiary of Barclays Bank PLC, London.As the company's first CFO, Robertson created and directed finance and accounting departments to support Barclays Commercial Bank and Barclays Capital.In this capacity, he helped direct Barclays' internal and external financial direction and policy, including full responsibility for the $150 million P&L, as well as overseeing the financial activities of Banco Barclays e Galicia, a $70 million P&L Brazilian joint venture.
Robertson also held positions at American Savings of Florida, Costa Cruise Lines, Royal Viking Line, Del Monte Foods and Florida Power & Light Company.
