There are health issues that affect daily living, and there's a great need among our youngsters to battle some of the social ills, particularly among our at-risk children," said Edna Robertson, an active local club woman who is president of the Toledo chapter of the Links, Inc., organized here in 1972.

Mrs. Robertson, an activist educator, added that black women's groups are particularly active in Toledo because there are many talented members in positions of power.

"It's strong because it meets a need; it's an outlet that is there because there are so many needs that have not been addressed by other groups ... the major institutions besides our churches and our schools are our service organizations," said Mrs. Robertson.

"They provide a setting where nobody is going to be put out on Front Street, or tell their business. It's a comfortable setting with our own people."

"We know proficiency is coming and we want to make sure these youngsters pass it" said the Toledo Chapter President, Edna Robertson.

One student said "It's kind of weird but i like it because these women are helping kids believe in themselves and helping them believe they can pass the proficiency and have confidence"

The Toledo Chapter of "Links Incorporated" will be working with the kids at Cherry Elementary every Saturday.
