Council's Waste Management Officer, Peter Roberts, urged residents to take advantage of the offer.

"Household green waste can be disposed of free-of-charge from 1 November to 10 December 2007 at any Council Recycling and Waste Transfer Station," said Mr Roberts.

"Hopefully this will encourage people to clean up their land prior to fire season."

Mr Roberts reminded residents that weeds cannot be put in green waste.

"Weeds can't be included in our green waste because of their potential to spread through the mulch that is sold back to the public," explained Mr Roberts.

"However, up to two 70 litre bags per week of household waste, including wrapped weeds, can be disposed of free-of-charge all year round.

"If you are transporting weeds to the tip please make sure they are bagged or have an effective cover to help stop weed seed being dispersed on roadsides," reminded Mr Roberts.

"To ensure that you receive your groups cleaning equipment in time registrations should be made prior to 9 February," Mr Roberts advised.

"In recent years, groups registering in the two weeks prior to the day have missed out on receiving their equipment.

"If you would like to clean up a site but need assistance in finding one, please contact our Waste Management Team on either 5671 2211 or 5951 3311.

"Remember, you need to be registered to participate," continued Mr Roberts.
