"Paige Roberts, the head of the Red Cross in the county, lost her home and she has been sleeping on the floor of the Emergency Operation Center," he said.

He said he realizes that Jackson County wasn't as hard hit as Harrison and Hancock counties, but that means the county is in a better position to support temporary housing.

"It should be to our advantage," he said."But instead, it's like we're third on the list."

He said he is mad and has written a letter to FEMA to complain.

"People living with families isn't going to last long," Roberts said, adding it doesn't make sense for someone's long-term plan to be living with a family member.

Don Stewart's home in Gautier was hit with 4 feet of water.Since the storm, he has moved in with his sister in Pascagoula along with his 87-year-old mother. He spends his days working as chief deputy for the Sheriff's Office, but at night he can't go back to his home.

His wife is in Texas with a handicapped grandchild. They are living with a cousin.

He said it is not that he and his wife are looking for anyone to take care of them, they would just like to have a temporary home they can be reunited in, preferably in the front yard, so they can be next to their home.

Roberts said that is another matter and that FEMA is using flood zone maps to determine if a trailer can be placed on a former homestead.
