Nancy Roberts, of the South-East Regional Health Authority in Moncton, agrees.

Telehealth services are essential with her authority as 20 per cent of the patient load comes from outside the region.

Roberts says more equipment and funding could go a long way.

'We have the capacity here in New Brunswick, but our capacity is limited,' she said.

To that end , CSHP has formed a seamless care task force , which Ensom co-chairs with fellow pharmacist Nancy Roberts.

We want to get some of the people who are closer to the cutting edge to come together and share their experiences and maybe come up with an enhanced model and a strategy for how it could work and who would be responsible for promoting and moving it along , Enson explains.Although CSHP has agreed to take the lead on this , the key is for us to be cooperative with CPhA [ the Canadian Pharmacists Association ].You cannot provide seamless care from one side of the gap..( At press time , the task force was planning a teleconference on seamless care with CPhA staff to take place in late November. ).

A seamless care prototype , he adds , would need to address not only how hospital pharmacists might transfer information to community pharmacists but also how they might communicate with pharmacists at other practice sites , such as residential care facilities and health care clinics.
