Mark Roberts, Senior Project Manager
Mark began his archaeological career as a volunteer on excavations during school holidays.After graduating from York University, in 1984, Mark continued to volunteer and formally joined the Oxford Archaeological Unit in 1986.From October 1996 he was Contracts Officer for the OAU, with responsibility for all costings and tenders.Between 1998 and 1999 he was employed by Museum of London Archaeology Service as a Project Manager responsible for gaining work outside London, a position that developed the skills gained at the OAU.From 1999 to 2004 he was a Senior Project Manager with Wessex Archaeology responsible for tendering, designing, negotiating and implementing programmes of archaeological work across southern Britain.He carried out programmes of evaluation and excavation in Cambridgeshire involving up to 40 staff over some 48 months and carrying out numerous phases of work for a variety of clients ranging from Tesco to consortia of house builders.
At Easter 2004 Mark joined Headland Archaeology as a Senior Project Manager.He has managed a large urban excavation in Leith, in advance of development.Currently, in addition to numerous field projects, he is responsible for contributions on Cultural Heritage for a number of Environmental Statements in England and Scotland including six windfarm proposals in Aberdeenshire, South Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire and Sutherland.
