Rafael Rivera is a leader in the nonprofit sector and a recent MBA graduate from Pepperdine University.
Before completing his degree, Rafael served as the Director of Operations and Interim Executive Director for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).
As the senior staff officer reporting directly to the Board of Directors, he managed and provided oversight for the organization's business and financial operations of the national office.
Rafael offered experience in multiple functional areas, including but not limited to marketing, corporate relations, finance, membership, information technology, and human resources, with core competencies in operations, meetings and events planning, and development.
A certified meeting professional (CMP), Rafael has planned, coordinated, and executed all aspects of event logistics of up to 19 events per year including annual conferences, executive meetings, training programs, and retreats ranging in size from 10 to 6,000+ attendees.
In 2006, Rafael received the SHPE President's Award.
Before joining SHPE, Rafael was brand marketing manager for CULTURA in Dallas, event marketing manager for BrassRing, Inc. in Boston, special events operations manager for The Kydd Group in Minneapolis, senior account executive at Hispanic Business Inc., and conference services manager for the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA).
Rafael is a former Los Angeles chapter officer.
He has served as an Advisory Board member of LA Inc., a Multicultural Initiative Committee member for Meeting Professionals International, a board member of the International Association of Hispanic Meeting Professionals (IAHMP), and a panelist at National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners and IAHMP.
Rafael earned a bachelor's of science degree at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.
