While most people use their feet to run away from snakes, Rivas uses his feet to help capture them.Rivas spends most of his time in the Llanos (savanna) area of Venezuela, where he studies the behavior of green anacondas, green iguanas and Orinoco crocodiles that live there. He often goes through the marshy areas of Llanos barefooted, "feeling around" for the large anacondas that he captures, studies, and then sets free.Rivas, who has a doctorate in ecology and evolutionary biology from the University of Tennessee, was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1964.He has taught at the University of Tennessee and Boston University as well as in Costa Rica and Venezuela.
The East Campus Student Development Office is sponsoring the presentation.
