The concert of do-overs was conceived by artistic director Gwen Ritchie, who will present a revised version of her own 2-year-old work, "Treading Rites."
"Part of the reason I did this is that I really think you can never go back to a piece enough," says Ritchie, a Dance Alloy alumnus who trained in ballet and pilates as well as modern dance."There aren't a lot of opportunities to perform a piece more than once."
In addition to Cacalano's "Spirit Bodies" and "The Window Seat Diaries," a collaboration between Trump and C-c Braun, "New re:Works" includes a work by Teena Custer and two additional pieces created by Ritchie.
...
The other is a solo in which Ritchie plumbs the feelings of displacement and alienation she experienced when she moved from Scotland to the United States at age 8.
"I'm hoping this will kind of fill the hole in the dance community where the Coreographers Continuum used to be," Ritchie says, referring to the Pittsburgh Dance Council showcase that was cancelled in 2000.
Labco is doing fine, says Ritchie, but funds are tight while she waits for the spring grants to come through.
"I had to limit it only to two choreographers from Black Box.I had to end up making a lot of work myself -- because I can do that for free," she jokes.
