A. Scott RitchieCollege of Liberal Arts and Sciences, 1954
Scott Ritchie's passions stretch as far as the shimmering prairie grasses and blue skies of his Flint Hills ranch.High on his long list of interests is his beloved University, and his enduring faith in KU has motivated him to support his many other interests through his alma mater.Scott is first a geologist, who remains devoted to his KU department as an adviser and benefactor and as a national leader of earth scientists. The geology department has honored him as a distinguished alumnus.Scott also is a businessman, with interests in oil and gas exploration, Pizza Huts and ranching. As one who knows not only the state's physical landscape but also its outlook in economics, education and the arts, he has long served as a valuable adviser to our Chancellor, the KU Endowment Association, the Spencer Museum of Art and the Association. With his wife, Carol, d'54, Scott has supported academic scholarships, KU athletics and the Lied Center of Kansas. The Ritchies also help the Association reach out to young scholars through the Kansas Honors Program, and they have created an endowment to help the Association reach out to alumni for chapter and membership activities. For teaching us all what it means to be a Jayhawk for life, the KU Alumni Association is proud to present to Scott Ritchie a Fred Ellsworth Medallion.
