Dave Rinehart began his usability consulting career in 1990, where he worked with the late Dave Johnson of Usability Systems, Inc.He performed consulting work for the Lotus Word Processing Division, Peachtree Software, and XcelleNet, and helped initiate the Usability Professionals Association (UPA), serving on the initial conference planning committee.Mr. Rinehart was President of Usability Management, Inc., based in Atlanta and Chicago, from 1994 until the merger of his company with Jeff Rubin's JRA - The Usability Connection in 1999 to form The Usability Group.

In the mid-nineties, Mr. Rinehart conducted international engagements with Andersen Consulting, and Cyco International, and worked on early web projects with Sun Microsystems, Mindspring and NationsBank.He was elected to the Board of Directors of the UPA by its members.In 1995 Mr. Rinehart developed The Usability YardstickT model and early versions of The Usability RoadmapĀ® in 1996, which have become mainstays of The Usability Group's consulting process.
Mr. Rinehart earned a BA in psychology (magna cum laude) from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and was inducted into BGSU's first Phi Beta Kappa class.In the late 1980's Mr. Rinehart earned an MS degree from Georgia State University and served as Emory University's diving coach, where he produced several All-American divers, a three-time national champion, and was twice named NCAA Coach of the Year.Mr. Rinehart lives with his wife Nadine and their three sons in the Atlanta area.
