STATESBORO - Savannah State University fired baseball coach Jamie Rigdon for a pattern of misconduct, school officials told administrative law judge Chris Foster at a hearing Monday.

Rigdon appealed his Sept. 27, 2005, firing to the State Board of Regents.The State Board of Regents referred the case to the Office of State Administrative Hearings, which administers hearings for various state agencies.
Rigdon guided his alma mater to a 301-125-1 record in nine years.He is the winningest coach in any sport in SSU history.
Ann Brumbaugh, lead counsel for SSU, opened the case saying evidence would show "Jamie Rigdon is a big guy who causes trouble."

Rigdon's attorney, Alan Lowe, said Rigdon was treated differently than SSU coaches in other sports.

Lowe said Rigdon was dismissed over campus police reports that later were determined unfounded.

Other witnesses who filed complaints against Rigdon were Shirley Geiger, chair of the department of political science and public affairs, and Karen Burke, formerly the athletic department's secretary.

Geiger filed a campus police report in Sept. 2005 against Rigdon "to go on the record because it had been suggested to me to send this up the chain of command."

Later that month, Rigdon was expelled from the Master of Public Administration program, which is overseen by Geiger.
