Rigdon began his dentistry schooling at age 16.In 1878 he opened a dental depot for the sale of dental supplies and surgical instruments, employing two traveling selemen.He began publication of "The Dental Student" in 1884, a journal devoted to dental literature.Rigdon was a member of Warsaw's first fire company and the Warsaw saxhorn band.He was also a professional photographer, an eye doctor, restaurant owner, and owner of the Rigdon Jewelry Store.Notes also show that he bought a chair factory and turned it into a bowling alley, and he was a leading bicycle dealer.Rigdon acquired much real estate in the downtown area, as well as land by Center Lake.His property on the south side of Center Lake then known as "Rigdon Row," was purchased by the City in 1919 and renovated into what is now Center Lake park, beach, and the pavilion.The Rigdon building was in the 100 block of Center Street that also housed the Interurban Street Car Depot.
In 1884, he was the first president of the Central Union Telephone Company of Kosciusko and Marshall Counties, and during the same year was elected secretary of the Warsaw Building, Loan & Savings Association.Rigdon was also one of the lessees and managers of the Warsaw Opera House.He was a Grand Master of IOOF Kosciusko Lodge #62 and High Priest of Hackelman Encampment #37, and was involved in founding the Eagles Lodge in 1907.
