John A. Rickard, AIA, PE - Principal
John Rickard is a founding principal of Pi Architects & Engineers, Inc. and is a registered architect and engineer in the state of Texas.In addition, John is an adjunct professor in the architectural engineering program at The University of Texas at Austin and is the architect/engineer representative to the Texas Department of Human Services Advisory Committee on Assisted Living Facilities.
John believes in encouraging his clients' involvement from project planning through construction to ensure functional, economic, and code requirements are all given appropriate consideration.To that end, he assists the client in preparing a detailed functional program, and conducts a thorough assessment of the various codes and licensing requirements for the project, combining his own findings with those of the client's staff and consultants.He then focuses on identifying innovative solutions to functional and/or code issues emphasizing either immediate or long-term cost savings, depending on the client's particular needs.
John is an active member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and is an ICBO-certified Accessibility/Usability Specialist.He maintains a detailed knowledge of a number of codes, including NFPA 101 Life Safety Code; ADA and Texas Accessibility Standards; several model building codes; and numerous State of Texas healthcare and nursing standards.
