"I've outlasted four clergy," Rickard, 66, said."I'm on my fifth priest right now."
He will also continue as music director of the Community Chorus of Redlands, which he started in 1979, and he is planning to form a smaller group out of that chorus.

Over the summer, Rickard traveled with his wife, Margaret, to the Tanglewood Music Festival in Lennox, Mass., where they saw Margaret's son Michael play French horn with principals of the Boston Symphony."So it was quite a thrill to be back there for concert after concert in the shed to watch him play with these guys," Rickard said.
With more time on his hands, he plans to enjoy some of the other musical attractions in the Inland region such as the Riverside County Philharmonic and the San Bernardino Symphony.
"I've been so cloistered at the University of Redlands, I'm going to find out more about that," he said.
He also plans to pursue some more physical activities."I like to play golf.I've just rediscovered my clubs," he said.
And he joined a health club "so I can get my body in some sort of shape to be able to do that. And I hope to be able to go sailing. So it isn't going to be all sitting behind a piano or an organ -- get out there and get some exercise," he said.
