Barbara Rice, co-founder and principal consultant of The Alliance for Effective Organizations Inc. (AEO), has more than thirty years of successful business experience in organizational effectiveness, human resources management, and marketing research, in both corporate executive and external consultant roles.

Barbara provides consultation and facilitation and training services to nonprofit and business organizations.Her aim is to enable individuals, teams, and organizations as a whole to perform differently and with much greater levels of effectiveness.Barbara's current consulting work is focused in the areas of strategic planning, change management, executive coaching, and performance management.Barbara works in close partnership with her clients to provide a customized and strategic approach to people development and organizational capacity building agendas.

Prior to her work with AEO, Barbara was Vice President of Human Resources and member of the Executive Committee for Scott Paper Company.In that role, Barbara designed and led the implementation of policies, processes and programs which supported the strategic management of Scott's 32,000 worldwide employee base, including succession planning and development, capability development, compensation and benefits, as well as labor and employee relations.She created the innovative Scott Center for Organizational Learning to leverage learning by driving strategic change.She refocused the human resources function to play a more value-adding role in the business, introducing more rigorous processes for staffing and performance management and making compensation a performance-driven tool for change.Barbara was also a key contributor to transforming labor-management relations at Scott from highly adversarial to highly cooperative, leading to lower operating costs, improved productivity, and significantly greater employee satisfaction and growth.Earlier in her career at Scott, she directed the company's marketing research function and served as marketing evaluator for new business ventures.

Barbara is a member of the Board of Directors of ActionAIDS.She holds a degree in Philosophy, with Phi Beta Kappa distinction, from the University of Pennsylvania.
