Tara Ricciardi

Tara Ricciardi, one of the most talented and speedy soccer players to come out of the Wayne Valley girls program, has given a verbal commitment to attend Providence College.

Ricciardi, the 2004 Herald News Player of the Year, scored 11 goals and dished out an area-best 26 assists last season while leading the Indians to their fifth Passaic County title in nine years.

Ricciardi said she made the decision after taking an official visit to Providence earlier this month.She opted for the Rhode Island school over Villanova, St. John's and Dartmouth.

"I always wanted to go to a Division-I, Big East (Conference) team," Ricciardi said.

A central midfielder with the Herald News No. 1 Indians (6-1), Ricciardi prefers distributing to scoring, though she is capable of both.She has a keen understanding of the game and often runs drills during Valley practices.
