Tigers head coach Scott Rials said he had many reasons to have the camp, which involves seven practices, at the school.

"It's the familiarity of where we are.Cost is a big factor. If (an emergency) should happen, you're not far from home," Rials said, adding the seven practices are

Rials said townspeople usually provide the meals for the players.

"The people in the community do well to come out and feed us.They are really good to support us," he said.

"It'll be a longer trip back if we don't play well," said Scott Rials, Tigers' head coach.

Rials said the team will leave Elba at 10 a.m. to get to Winfield, which is above Tuscaloosa, in time to warm-up for the game.

When the team gets to Winfield, it will face a daunting running attack.

"They've got an excellent quarterback that can throw and pass equally well," Rials said.

That quarterback is Zack Townley, and he helps direct a powerful running game that features fullback Mark Thompson and running back Marcus Carthage.

"Their backs are solid. The key for them is they want to control the ball and the clock," Rials said.

Defensively, the Tigers will put eight or nine men close to the line of scrimmage to limit Winfield's running yardage, Rials said.

Rials added he will use his offense to counter the Winfield offense.

Rials hopes his team will get a couple of scores early to put Winfield behind.

Rials said if his team does that, it might force Winfield to abandon the run and go to the air.

"Any time you're in a ballgame with pretty equally-matched teams, turnovers and stupid penalties play a factor," Rials said.
    ...
Rials said his team has improved in limiting turnovers this year.

"We've only lost a few fumbles and threw five interceptions in well over 200 pass attempts," he said.

Rials said Winfield's defense is strong, and is led by Townley in the secondary.

Rials said Winfield's team reminds him of the Geneva Panthers, especially with the run game.

Rials likes the move to 2A,, Region 2 because of the familiarity with the teams in that region.

Tigers head coach Scott Rials is happy to be back in the playoff after last year's team missed the postseason.

"We were disappointed to miss them last year," he said, adding the Tigers got off to a bad start due to early injuries.

The Tigers ended last season witha 55-54 triple-overtime win, which Rials said helped this year's team.
    ...
We spent more time (on defense) trying to prepare for Straughn because they have a good offense and because we were kinda lackluster against Geneva," Rials said.

Rials said to win the contest with Abbeville, the defense must continue itsgood effort.

"We have to be sound defensively because they can throw the ball," he said, adding his players need to work hard until the whistle blows each play dead.

Offensively, the Tigers are concerned with the Yellow Jackets' speed.

"We'll give some misdirection, some play-action passes, to counter that," Rials said.

Abbeville has a 1-7 record, but Rials believes that record is a little misleading.

Abbeville lost to Headland last week by one point. Two weeks ago, the Yellow Jackets lost to Slocomb by two points.

"They have good athletes. They play hard," Rials said.

"We just messed up at the end," said Scott Rials, Tigers head coach."We missed a route on the end."

Rials explained the play was changed at the line of scrimmage, and one of the receivers may not have received the message.

    "Miscommunications happen," he said.

Despite the loss, Rials was proud of his team's effort.

"We had several chances to fold our tents.I'm proud for all of our guys for their effort," he said.
