Next week two businesses will be featured.South Laredo residents Sergio Reyna and his wife Imelda had known for several years they wanted to go into business.
...
"Their seminars are helpful," Sergio said.
It was a matter of money and time before the couple opened Licores Barricas in the Plaza Obelick at 4205 Bob Bullock Loop, Suite 1, on Jan. 16.
Sergio has been working for the Texas Department of Transportation as a construction record keeper and auditor for the Del Rio and Carrizo Springs area for nearly six years, but he wanted more. His business to help support his family was the answer.
...
Sergio said the help they received from the SBDC was excellent, showing both the pros and cons of taking the risk.He said they have the experience, contacts, and knowledge to help budding entrepreneurs.
"They can show you if you really want to start a business," he said.
One of the most important parts was developing a business plan that included profit margin surveys of that area. The plan also divides the work load for a small business like theirs, and helps establish a budget for inventory and expenses Sergio said.
Another important risk is financing. The couple borrowed $70,000 from a home equity loan from Wells Fargo to get the business going.
"We're taking it day by day.We just want to keep our business growing little by little," Sergio said.
...
"Our customer service here is very good," Sergio said.
Business is getting better, doubling since they opened.
