"Everyone knows we're here to get them back on their feet AFTER an injury," says Rachel Reiman, Director of Rehab Services at FAMC, "but we want to make sure it's OK for them to even step on that field or court."
During the screenings, a team of healthcare professionals, which consists of physicians, physician's assistants, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, certified athletic trainers, registered nurses and other medical volunteers, look for health problems and risks of re-injury from previous injuries. The screenings meet the guidelines suggested by the Nebraska School Activities Association.
Medical Center staff and local healthcare providers conduct the assessments at no charge to the student-athletes or their parents."There are so many costs for parents to cover for kids in high school, eliminating just one of them can be a real benefit," states Reiman.

According to Reiman, approximately 700 kids from 13 area high schools were seen within a period of six hours."This tremendous collaborative effort between FAMC Medical Staff, rehab, nursing and employees demonstrates what can be accomplished when everyone from the medical community works together to serve the community," says Reiman.
