    Rebecca Reed is a children's book writer and illustrator based in Reston, Virginia.She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL, where she majored in printmaking and minored in art history.Rebecca received her Master of Fine Arts degree at Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL, where she focused in the areas of painting and printmaking.She also studied art at the Cité Universitaire de Paris in Paris, France.

    Rebecca's illustrations are a combination of acrylic and pencil used together in a lithographic style that is uniquely her own.She composes the images by utilizing abstract shapes mapped out underneath stylized illustrations in order to draw the viewer into the picture and create interest and movement.Her close attention to detail is intended to inspire imagination by capturing a sense of magic and mystery.Humor is also a prevalent element in her work.

    Rebecca has been the recipient of numerous awards throughout her fifteen year career as a freelance artist.She recently received the First Place Art Award at the Annual SCBWI Mid-Year Conference in New York.Her artwork is currently featured on the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators website under the Previous Featured Artist section.Rebecca has been a member of SCBWI since 2001.

    Rebecca Reed

    Ms. Reed earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; her M. Phil. in Biological Sciences from the University of Cambridge, UK; her Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Wyoming; and her law degree from the University of Arizona. During her years as an ecologist, Ms. Reed researched natural ecosystems through undergraduate and post-doctoral fellowships and published several scientific papers. While in law school, Ms. Reed was a staff writer and editor of the Arizona Law Review and served as legal counsel for dependent children as a participant in the Child Advocacy Clinic. A rural Arizona resident, Ms. Reed is active in the Sulphur Springs Valley community.

    Ms. Reed successfully completed the Arizona bar examination and was admitted to the State Bar of Arizona in 2004. Her anticipated practice areas include personal injury, commercial litigation, and constitutional law.
