Striker Jamie Reed, formerly of Aberystwyth Town, has been released by Wrexham.Striker Jamie Reed, who began the season on loan at Aberystwyth Town has been released by Wrexham following their relegation from the Football League.

The 20-year old forward played 19 (+1) times for the Seasiders in the League this year, scoring nine goals and was a great success at Park Avenue, before he was recalled to the Racecourse.

Reed is an Ulsterman who Joined the Wrexham Centre of Excellence in 2003 as a sixteen year-old from Glentoran. He went back to the Irish outfit in January 2006, but returned to the Dragons at the start of the 2006/07 season. He then spent time at Colwyn Bay but again returned to Wrexham, who allowed him to join the Seasiders to gain some much needed experience.

He made his debut in the 1-1 Welsh Premier League draw against Airbus UK in August 2007 and then stole the headlines in August when he struck an impressive hat-trick against then-Champions TNS in a 5-1 win at Park Avenue.

Reed's impressive scoring record in the League for Aberystwyth will certainly make him a hot target for a number of Welsh Premier League clubs over the summer, so it will be interesting to monitor his movements.

A promising young goalgetter Jamie Reed is hoping, after loan spells at Glentoran and Colwyn Bay, to get a chance to show what he can do in the Wrexham first team.

Reed describes himself as "big, strong, quick ... [and] very comfortable in front of goal", and his record in the reserves supports that assesment. He has had little chance to impress since he made his debut in January 2005 coming on as a 78th minute substitute in a Welsh premier Cup quarter final at Haverfordwest.Indeed, he managed just five substitute appearances under Denis Smith, but Brian Carey has seemed keener to explore his potential.

Reed nearly rewarded Carey with a first senior goal at Darlington in January 2007, twice going close in the closing moments of a 1-1 draw at Darlington.
