    James L. Reed, Jr., Named Associate Counsel for Classic Residence by Hyatt

    CHICAGO, IL, May 30, 2001 - Classic Residence by Hyatt, the senior living affiliate of Chicago-based Hyatt Corp., recently appointed James Leighton Reed, Jr., as associate counsel.In this role, Reed will assist Classic Residence by Hyatt Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Mergers Matt Phillips in handling all legal issues relating to development, operations, finance, and corporate compliance with federal and state regulations.

    Prior to joining Classic Residence by Hyatt, Reed served as assistant regional counsel for the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in Chicago, where he orchestrated real estate transactions, handled Medicare reimbursement and regulatory enforcement cases, represented HHS in union negotiations, and advised HHS administrators.Additionally, he counseled and advised the Indian Health Service, the Health Care Financing Administration, and the Administration for Children and Families.Reed has also served as an associate attorney for several Chicago law firms and as deputy attorney general for the Office of the Attorney General in Indianapolis.

    Reed earned his J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington, Ind. As an undergraduate, he attended Cornell University and received his bachelor of arts degree in political science from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he graduated cum laude and wrote a thesis on Native American legal anthropology.He has studied abroad in Paris, France and in Salamanca, Spain, where he focused on French and Spanish language, history, and culture.
