Melissa Read, Jim Preminger Agency. (Panel: Agents and Managers) Melissa Read began her industry-related career as a manager of Special Events at Walt Disney Pictures Distribution. Her department was responsible for such film opening events as The Lion King at Radio Music Hall and Pocahontas at Central Park. In 1994, Melissa transferred within Walt Disney to the International Television Marketing department. There, Melissa was responsible for the marketing, merchandising and promotions of many Disney, Touchstone and ABC shows. In 1996, Melissa decided to switch to an area of the business that would more fully utilize her English & American literature major, so she went to CAA to serve as an assistant to an agent as a way of training to become an agent. She spent another year as assistant to Elliot Webb at Broder, Kurland, Webb, Uffner (now known as Broder, Webb, Silbermann, Chervin,) before becoming an agent at The Field-Cech Agency in 1998. Since April of 2000, Melissa Read has been an agent at the Jim Preminger Agency. She represents both television and feature writers as well as directors. -
