The Institute set five primary goals, according to Dean of Learning Services Melissa Read. They include purchasing assistive technology and equipment, providing faculty and staff training, designing and implementing curricular initiatives, developing a research library, and conducting an evaluation of programs.
The College has purchased software to enlarge text onscreen or to convert text to speech for visually impaired students, and tape players and telephone enhancements for hearing-impaired students, among other devices.A portable ramp system and a vertical lift for the college's Multipurpose Room make the campus even more accessible to students in wheelchairs.
In the area of faculty and staff training, the school has held a workshop for staff on using assistive technology.
