Much sympathy has also been pouring in for the family of Ishrat Jahan Raza, the 19-year-old college student who was among the four riddled by bullets when police opened fire on their car.

The most inexplicable is the killing of Ishrat Jahan Shamim Raza, a second year science student at Mumbai's Guru Nanak Khalsa College.The Thane police, the suburb to which she belonged, says it has no evidence to link 18-year-old Ishrat with the terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba.But the Ahmedabad police counters that she was shot because she was traveling in a car along with heavily armed militants plotting to kill the Chief Minister.

On June 15, a Mumbai college student, Ishrat Jehan Raza, and three others were gunned down by the police in Ahmedabad who suspected them to be Lashkar-e-Toiba operatives.Their mission: Gujarat CM Narendra Modi's assassination.The killings sparked massive furore.But a month on, the LeT added to the confusion by claiming that Ishrat was indeed an operative of the outfit.

Asked about the involvement or otherwise of a Mumbai college student, Ishrat Raza, in the crime, Additional Commissioner for Police (Crime) D G Vanzara told UNI this was a new trend in terrorism.

Mumbai, June 19 (UNI) Following investigations by Pune Police which established that slain suspected terrorist Javed Mohammed had lived in the same Mumbai suburb as Ishrat Raza in the nineties, Thane Police are now trying to establish links, if any, between the Mumbai collegian and Javed.

The Thane Crime Branch-CID is already probing the antecedents of 19-year-old Ishrat, also a resident of Mumbra township in the adjoining district, who was a student of second year B Sc at Khalsa College here.

Six years ago, Ishrat would have been 13 while Javed 26 and the age difference may prove to be a hurdle in the friendship theory, police sources said.
